Our History

Founded in 1883, the Traralgon Football Netball Club has proudly stood as a cornerstone of local football and netball in the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland region. For generations, our club has been more than just a team—it's been a community where players, families, and supporters come together with a shared passion for the game.

Our first recorded match was played at home against Warragul, where we celebrated our inaugural victory—a moment that set the tone for the spirit and determination that defines us to this day.

Although we went into recess in 1894, we returned to competition in 1895 with renewed strength and purpose. Over the years, we've competed in various leagues across Gippsland, spending significant time in the Latrobe Valley Football League from 1954 to 1995, and proudly representing our community in the Gippsland Football League from 2005 to the present.

In 1996 and 1997, we embraced the challenge of competing in the VFL (formerly the VFA) after a highly successful period in the Latrobe Valley Football League during the early ’90s. While our first season yielded just one win and the second saw an improvement with three victories, the experience strengthened our resolve and showcased our club's ambition to compete at higher levels.

Our return to the Gippsland Latrobe Football League (formerly the Latrobe Valley Football League) was marked by immediate success, securing the 1998 Premiership—a testament to our resilience and unwavering commitment.

The 1960s and 1990s stand out as our most successful eras, where we claimed a combined 12 premierships out of our 31 senior football premierships. These decades reflect the hard work, talent, and dedication of countless players, coaches, and supporters who wore the maroon and white with pride.

Most recently, we celebrated our latest senior football premiership in 2024, triumphing over Leongatha at Morwell Recreation Reserve with a final score of 11.12.78 to 7.11.53. In netball, our A Grade team secured their most recent premiership in 2017, adding to our rich legacy of success across both codes.

In 2015, we proudly introduced our women's football side, marking a new chapter in our club's history and providing opportunities for female athletes to showcase their talent and passion for the game. Building on this, our Youth Girls team was established in 2017, creating a strong development pathway for young female footballers. This commitment to fostering talent was rewarded with the Youth Girls securing a premiership in 2019, a proud milestone that highlights the growth and success of our women's program.

Our history is woven with stories of perseverance, community spirit, and the pursuit of excellence. As we continue to grow, we remain proud of our past and excited for the future, always striving to honour the maroon and white.
